What makes epoxy flooring a better option other types of flooring sealants?
Epoxy floors have a huge range of benefits. The main ones that differentiate them from products such as paint is that they are extremely durable and more resilient to impact and other types of damage. Epoxy is made up of two components. When these are combined it creates an extremely strong finished product that is easy to clean, non-slip and exceptionally durable.
What are some of the benefits of epoxy flooring?
As mentioned above, epoxy is made of two components and when these are mixed together it creates a chemical reaction that is known as polymerisation. This creates a floor sealer that is known as 100% solids. This is a much more resilient finished product than nearly all other types of sealants and solvents that are available. In addition, it’s easy to clean, resistant to chemicals, has non-slip properties and is incredibly durable.
What do you mean when you say “100% Solids”?
This is the reference given to the percentage of solids that is any type of coating.
With epoxy there is no solvent or water that dilutes it. Your epoxy floor is literally 100% solids. This is essentially what makes this product so strong and durable.
Along with not being as durable, there is also some shrinkage that occurs with products that have a water base.
Epoxy flooring really is the leader when it comes to adhesion and resilience.
Can you apply epoxy over existing paints or coatings?
No. We strongly recommend that you do not use epoxy directly over surfaces that already been coated.
This may cause problems with the epoxy bonding correctly.
If you do wish to apply epoxy on existing coatings you will need to strip the floor back and clean it. After this is done you can apply an epoxy finish.
Can you use epoxy to repair holes and cracks in concrete?
Yes. This is a great product for repairing concrete floors. Epoxy is known as self-levelling which means it leaves a level finish. We also use an epoxy resin paste for larger repair jobs.
Is it safe to use epoxy on indoor surfaces?
Yes. Our epoxy products are very safe. There are no volatile organic compounds in the products that we use.
The fumes that are created from the process are also completely safe.
This is one of the main advantages of our epoxy range and why they are so well suited to a variety of indoor locations.
Can you apply a non-slip finish to floors that have been coated with epoxy?
Yes. We can apply a non-slip finish to your epoxy floor. This process makes the floor rougher which creates an extremely slip-resistant floor.
Will sunshine impact my epoxy floor?
Ultraviolet radiation, which comes from sunlight, can cause the majority of coatings to fade. However, our epoxy floors have a UV protector applied to them, which means damage caused from sunshine is greatly reduced.
Can epoxy floors be scratched?
Yes. Epoxy floors are one of the most durable flooring solutions that you can have. That being said there is a very small risk that with extremely heavy objects that are being dragged across the floor scratches or chips may occur.
